Anthropic’s Revenue Nears $17 Billion as Quarterly Loss Shrinks
The AI company Anthropic reported $16.96 billion in third-quarter revenue, up from $11.56 billion in the previous quarter. Its net loss narrowed to $23.29 billion from $66.3 billion, according to an amended US IPO filing. The updated figures give investors a fuller view ahead of the company’s planned Nasdaq listing.
Anthropic brought in $16.96 billion in revenue during the third quarter, while its net loss fell to $23.29 billion from $66.3 billion in the previous quarter. The figures, disclosed in an amended filing on Monday, show a fast-growing business that is still spending heavily as it prepares to sell shares to the public. 1
The amended filing adds results for the three months ending September 30 to the prospectus Anthropic made public last week. The five-year-old company, founded by former OpenAI researchers and led by CEO Dario Amodei, makes Claude, an AI system sold mostly to businesses. Revenue reached $16.3 billion in the first half and $33.24 billion in the first nine months, up about 1,200% from the same period a year earlier. 3
That growth comes with a costly need for computing power. Anthropic reported a $104 billion net loss for the first nine months. It said much of it came from changes in the reported value of convertible notes and other financial claims, not regular business costs. The filing also lists about $895.4 billion in combined purchase commitments and leases, mostly tied to computing and infrastructure. Investors must weigh those long-term obligations against explosive sales growth. 3
Those obligations make the IPO more than a bet on whether businesses keep adopting AI. Investors will also judge whether Anthropic can turn rising demand into lasting profits without letting computing costs and financing needs outpace revenue. The company filed to go public last week, and its amended prospectus gives potential buyers more financial detail as they consider the offering. 13
