Delhi Police Investigate 10 Links Flagged Over Alleged Child Abuse Material
Delhi Police are examining 10 links flagged in a complaint alleging child sexual abuse material on Meta platforms. The Special Cell registered FIR No. 236/2026 on October 8 under Information Technology Act Sections 67 and 67B, following National Human Rights Commission directions. Investigators will verify the links and allegations; the FIR does not establish guilt.

About 10 links are now under review by Delhi Police after a complaint alleged that child sexual abuse material was available on Meta platforms. Police filed the FIR on October 8, but the National Human Rights Commission’s announcement on Thursday, November 5, brought the case renewed attention. The investigation is at an early stage: police must check the links, and the allegations have not been proved. 79
The 10 links were flagged in a complaint that led Delhi Police’s Special Cell to file FIR No. 236/2026 under Sections 67 and 67B of the Information Technology Act. NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo said police acted on the commission’s directions. The case follows a separate inquiry by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights. The commission sent Meta a notice on July 3 and called senior India executives to a September hearing over alleged harmful ads. 89
That July inquiry followed a BBC investigation that reported paid Instagram ads allegedly directed users toward child sexual abuse material. The case matters because ads and links can lead people from a major social network to harmful material elsewhere, raising questions about how platforms check promotions and protect children. Meta has said it will report child-safety cases directly to India’s cybercrime portal. It also said it acted on 5.3 million pieces of child sexual exploitation content on Facebook and Instagram in India from January through June 2026. 136
Those 5.3 million actions show the scale Meta says its systems handle, but they do not settle what happened with the links in this complaint. The FIR is a step toward investigating, not a finding that Meta or any person is guilty. Meta had not commented on the latest development in the most recent report. Delhi Police will now examine the flagged links and check the allegations. 17
