India thrashes Sri Lanka to reach Asian Games final against Pakistan

Ishan Kishan stood tall at Nagoya, his 80 not out guiding India to 169 for seven in 20 overs, a score that looked rugged on a cracking pitch¹⁰. With Kishan anchoring the innings, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi chipped in with 38, helping India recover from early blows and steady the chase after Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl²¹.

The Sri Lankan innings unraveled as Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel exploited the surface, nightmarish run-outs and two wickets apiece sealing a 124-run win for India¹⁵. The victory not only secured a gold-medal spot but also set up a much-anticipated final against Pakistan, a match steeped in a long history of political and sporting rivalry that transcends the field³.

The broader moment echoes beyond the crease, as India defends its Asian Games title while navigating a backdrop of recent handshakes and hostile politics that shadow the sport⁶.

The day’s drama also featured Ishan Kishan racing toward new a-year batting records, while the supporting cast stitched together a resilient effort that kept India in control from ball one, ending in a celebration that will travel around Asian Games venues^7,11.
