Jehan Madan Takes Bronze as India Adds Para Games Medals

Fourth place was enough for para table tennis player Jehan Madan to earn bronze in the men’s singles Class 1 event. He finished the round-robin stage with one win and three losses, earning one of the two bronze medals awarded in the event. It was India’s only medal so far in the men’s singles table tennis competition. ¹

That bronze came after shooter Shrishti Arora rallied from a weak opening series to win bronze in the women’s air pistol SH1 event. Earlier Tuesday, Telangana runner Deepthi Jeevanji won the women’s 400m T20 in 56.36 seconds, setting a Games record, while powerlifter Ashok Kumar Malik and shooter Manish Narwal won silver medals. India had already won 11 medals on the opening day. ^1,3

Deepthi’s gold was her second straight title in the event. The result added to a career that includes a 2024 world championship gold and bronze at the Paris Paralympics. Her time beat Japan’s Niina Kanno, who finished in 58.92 seconds. The medals show India’s strength in track and field, shooting, powerlifting and table tennis, while live updates also show athletes advancing or being knocked out in badminton. ^3,7

Badminton player Suhas Yathiraj and teammate Abhijeet Sakhuja both advanced to the men’s singles SL4 quarterfinals, where they will face South Korean and Indian opponents, respectively. Sheetal Devi also reached the compound archery final, according to an earlier update. More matches are scheduled Tuesday in archery, swimming, judo and other sports, so India’s medal count could change as the day goes on. ^1,2
