Voltas Sets Two Leadership Handoffs, Six Months Apart
Voltas’s board named Tata Consumer Products chief Sunil Alaric D’Souza chairman from November 12, 2026. Noel N. Tata, Voltas chairman, retires at 70 under Tata Group rules, becoming chairman emeritus November 13. Room air conditioner business head Jayant Balan is proposed as managing director for five years from May 25, 2027, pending shareholder approval.

On November 12, Voltas will have a new chairman, while its next managing director is named for a handover more than six months later. The board’s plan sets two dates for change at the cooling and engineering company: Sunil Alaric D’Souza takes the chairmanship first. Then Jayant Balan is due to take over the executive post in May 2027. 12
D’Souza, already a Voltas director and head of Tata Consumer Products, succeeds Noel N. Tata, who retires as chairman and director at the close of business on November 11. Tata, associated with Voltas since 2003, turns 70 on November 12; the company said his retirement follows Tata Group rules for company leadership. He will become chairman emeritus the next day. The board approved the changes at its November 6 meeting. 15
That first handover is separate from the managing director succession. Mukundan Menon C.P. completes his term and retires from Voltas on May 24, 2027. Balan, currently head of the room air conditioner business, is proposed as an additional director and managing director for five years from May 25, subject to shareholder approval. He joined the Tata Group in 1999 and moved to Voltas in 2001, working across areas including manufacturing, supply chain and planning. 213
Balan’s appointment gives Voltas a named successor well before Menon leaves. D’Souza will take the chairmanship without leaving his roles as managing director and chief executive of Tata Consumer Products. The board also approved Trent managing director Venkatesalu Palaniswamy as a non-independent, non-executive Voltas director from November 12. The next immediate step is D’Souza’s appointment on that date; shareholders must still approve Balan’s proposed term. 58
